Chamomile 101: the calmer

Chamomile is super flower. You may know it best for being in sleepy time tea, but it can also be a really amazing skincare component. Just like chamomile helps calm the mind and promote relaxation, it also can soothe and calm the skin.

Since redness of the skin is caused by underlying inflammation, chamomile is great at removing redness, calming skin and soothing irritation (Engelman, MD, FACMS, FAAD).

It is also packed with an antioxidant called apigenin - this is why you see chamomile in many skincare ingredients being promoted as “healing” (Dr. Zeichner, MD, FAAD).

Often chamomile has a sweet smell, almost resembling green apple with some earthy notes.
